Calculating Volume Chemistry

Calculating Volume ChemistryCalculation of volume chemistry or volume titration is the traditional method of assessing the exact value of a solution. The uses of volume chemistry is as follows: it is a non-invasive, quick and useful method to identify the composition of a solution, thereby comparing its various components and concentrations with a set standard. The basic idea of volume chemistry is to measure the volume of a given substance (or solute) by dropping into a solution for a specific volume of standard medium that is known to contain that substance or solute in an exact ratio and concentration.In this respect, volume chemists calculate volumes of the chemical solutions by placing a sample into a flask containing water, air or soil and measuring the volume left in the container at the end of the experiment. The same volume of sample is then again added to the solution with the determination of the volume to be used as reference. The ratio of the volume of liquid sample/volu me of liquid medium is determined and subsequently termed the content coefficient of Volume or CUv. The difference between the two volumes is the content or density of the medium. If the ratio of the volume of the medium/sample is less than the coefficient of volume, then the solute is present in the medium/sample and the element may be volatile, semi-volatile or solid.In case the CUv/Volume Coefficient of Volume is less than the standard, then the medium is more soluble and it has to be diluted to attain the right content. The procedure for estimation of the CUv varies depending on the solute or other component and the solute.For instance, a solute is measured, measured with a standard and then diluted with water, gas or oil, using a test tube or different container to obtain the right CUv, and after that, measured again with the standard. With volume calculations, the fluid volume can be defined to be equal to the quotient of the two standards.Volume chemistry is a very important method for laboratory and industrial uses. Volume chemists use the CUv or the density of the medium and the content coefficient to calculate the average density of the solvent. Therefore, if the concentration of a given compound in the liquid is greater than the amount that can be dissolved by the same volume of medium, then it is said to be solubles that is soluble.Volumes are measured in the following way: liquids are measured by weight, solids are measured by volume, and gases are measured by volume. For every substance, the volume of the solute is equal to the volume of the liquid, and for each fluid the volume of the solute is equal to the volume of the liquid. However, the concept of fluid density changes when a gas is used for volume measurements.There are several mathematical procedures for calculation of volume. The cubic definition of volume is not suitable for some substances. Hence, for these substances, volumetric quantification and density determination are applying to arrive at the same figure.

Overcoming Test Anxiety with Mindful Relaxation Techniques

Overcoming Test Anxiety with Mindful Relaxation Techniques Improving Academic Performance At MyGuru, we understand full well the importance of confidence and anxiety management in helping students achieve their full potential on standardized tests (and all tests, for that matter). We often talk about testing performance being driven by three factors: How well do you know the content (i.e., the facts, formulas, and concepts to apply to the questions you’ll be asked How strong are your test taking skills (i.e., quick calculations, time management, intelligent guessing, deep understanding of question types and typical traps, etc.) How confident and focused are you on test day (i.e., not stressed, not anxious, fully engaged, calm, etc.) We typically address point 3 above through practice and repetition. Practice creates automaticity, so students are comfortable recalling facts or concepts and working through calculations without second guessing themselves, which reduces the chances that doubt or anxiety will start to appear in any significant way during the exam. The more times you’ve practiced under timed testing environments, the more comfortable you’ll be in the actual environment on test day. This alone can go a very long way in reducing stress and anxiety and buoying confidence for most test takes. However, there have been practitioners of breathing techniques to relax the body and improve focus for thousands of years (i.e., meditation, yoga, mindfulness…even hypnosis), and in our view, these techniques are incredible underutilized by students. This guest post discusses how one practitioner uses these techniques and what the process is all about. The author, John Hankey, is a certified hypnotherapist, Master Practitioner of NLP and registered 200-hour yoga instructor. He graduated with a B.S in applied mathematics from Stanford, an M.S. in Financial Economics from Oxford and spent three years on Wall Street before switching careers to become a coach. He has studied and incorporates Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Reiki and Conscious Language into his methodology. I specialize in helping students overcome issue-specific stress, usually in 3-5 sessions or less. Sessions begin with 10 minutes of deep relaxation. Entering this state of presence enables the participant to change at deeper levels with greater ease. Relaxation improves the student’s body awareness and gives them a stronger understanding for how they will feel when their situation has been resolved (much more relaxed). From here, I have students imagine that they are actually taking the test. As soon as they do so, their body begins to tense up. Their subconscious mind does not know the difference between fantasy and reality and therefore thinks the test is happening right now. Our work focuses on the body. Where specifically does the student feel tense? Part by part, we use techniques to enable the student to progressively relax while maintaining the visualization. Eventually, students are able to see and feel and experience themselves taking the test feeling totally and completely relaxed. This shift in internal response corresponds to a transformation in how they experience themselves during the actual examination. Once we establish their desired state, they are off and running. Physical relaxation addresses the mental realm as well! Negative thought patterns result from interior tension. Positive thought patterns and mental clarity result from interior relaxation, a concept that yogis, meditators and martial artists have known for millennia. Furthermore, unwinding test anxiety transfers out into all examination scenarios. Once their test-taking state is exactly how they wish it to be, we can focus on another area of their lives: doing homework, relating to friends at school, nutrition…anything. I have had many clients stay with me for a number of sessions as we systematically upgrade and transform their performance in many, many areas of life. This revolutionary approach represents a new paradigm, a shift in focus for our society. The degree to which we can relax in any given moment is the barometer for our overall health, well-being and vitality. Improving this skill, strengthening our capacity for relaxation like a muscle is the foundation for our personal growth for people of all ages. hbspt.cta._relativeUrls=true;hbspt.cta.load(215486, '6baac2ae-05a3-4610-9d1f-265c8cbd809f', {});

Another School Year Begins

Another School Year Begins Another school year begins. If you are a student, you may be grumbling. If you are a parent, you may be celebrating. Yes its that time again. Young children will shift between feelings of excitement and dread. Older kids, mostly dread. But us parents yahoo freedom! Hours and hours of freedom! Well maybe it isn’t that exciting for us parents, but it is nice to have some time for ourselves again. Remember that? As the new school year has gotten underway, all the shopping for school supplies and clothes is pretty much over. Transportation, classes, and other logistics have been sorted out. What is left for a parent to do? Before you make plans for your free time I have a suggestion. Go back and look at your child’s report card at the end of last year. Are there any subjects that they were weak in? Maybe spelling (that’s one of mine)? How about math? That is the number one top forty hit on the “I can’t keep up with this!   list, in school today. You see, in courses like arithmetic and geometry, these are building blocks for every other   mathematics course your child will have to take. Whether they go to calculus or beyond, the problem is, even the liberal art majors are still going to have to pass some algebra courses   and the like. If the foundation has not been laid properly in the earlier classes, everything will get overwhelming very fast. Getting a tutor is the best way to go, to improve the basics or solidify more advanced topics. One on one help makes all the difference for someone who is not learning to their potential. This is my experience as well. I could not say enough about what I was able to achieve when   I had the right tutor at my side. Notice I said the right tutor. Selecting the appropriate tutor is an important part of the process. A referral service, which charges students and their parents nothing to use, is a good start. TutorZ.com is one service that will meet your needs. The number of choices and the detailed information about each tutor gives you a superior method of finding what you are looking for. I know, Ive been there.

Massachusetts OKs Medical Marijuana

Massachusetts OKs Medical Marijuana (Associated Press) The ballot question makes it legal for those diagnosed  with  cancer, Parkinsons Disease, AIDS, Lou Gehrigs disease, glaucoma  and other conditions determined by a doctor to smoke a  prescribed  amount of marijuana. Supporters say the drug helps  alleviate the pain that people with these sicknesses face and also hope this will help the state regulate the illegal dispersion of the drug. Nonprofit treatment centers will be placed throughout the state and be able to grow marijuana and distribute up to a  60 day supply of the drug to the patient or caregiver. Opponents of the law claim they are concerned it will increase the amount of recreational use of marijuana, especially among teenagers who may think the drug is safe now that it is being used in the medical world. They also worry that the marijuana produced by the state could end up being sold on the black market as it has in other states. Other states have taken it a step further. Colorado and Washington state have legalized marijuana for recreational use. Supporters call this a huge step in what they call a change from modern day prohibition. Dan Hagen, 23, of Amherst who voted in favor of question 3 is pleased about the legislation in Colorado and Washington. I think its getting to the point where marijuana is looked at just like alcohol, Hagen says. Ive talked to people my age and even people who are older than my parents and they feel the same way as me. I dont see anything wrong with using marijuana  recreationally  and I definitely do not see anything wrong with using it medically. Patients will be able to legally obtain medical marijuana in Massachusetts as of January 1, but it wont be easy at first. To start, the patient will have to find a doctor who is willing to prescribe marijuana; the doctors are not forced by law to prescribe it. A second factor is that the Massachusetts Department of Public Health must come up with regulations for the selection and running of marijuana dispensaries by May 13, 2013. The law allows for Massachusetts to have 35 dispensaries; no more than five per county. For the time being, patients will be allowed to grow a 60 day supply and can have a designated caregiver assist them.

Do Your College Applications Over the Summer!

Do Your College Applications Over the Summer! Do Your College Applications Over the Summer! Do Your College Applications Over the Summer! High school students and their parents are always looking for tips and tricks to give their college applications an edge in the admissions process. As a tutor and teacher, there are many aspects of a students application that can be focused on and improved. However, these improvements often vary from student to student because of the individual nature of the applications. This is why experienced private tutors are especially beneficial; cookie-cutter, generic advice can only get you so far when youre trying to optimize your application sign up for our Irvine college application consulting. However, there is one tip that does apply to most students that is extremely helpful and often ignored: do your application early. Students almost always wait until the college deadlines are looming before finishing their applications. Even the most assiduous students are typically only completing their applications in September. My recommendation is to get it finished over the summer. Here are a few reasons why: More time to edit and proofread One of the more obvious benefits of finishing your applications over the summer is the extra time you can have without school. Youll likely have much more free time and fewer distractions so you can focus on your application. No procrastination stress Application deadlines are a huge producer of stress in high school students. Many students give up on applications or fail to put in their full effort because of procrastination and the stress of the deadline. If you finish early, you wont waste one second worrying about the deadline. Time to add more By completing your applications early and sending them to your favorite schools first, youll still have several months left if you decide you want to send more applications. Many students learn about new schools later that they didnt know about from friends or family after theyve done their applications. Doing your main applications over the summer still leaves the fall to do any extra applications you want to add. Find early-bird opportunities Many schools offer application benefits to students who reach out early. These include early tours of the school (sometimes with travel reimbursement), information packets, early decision or early action applications, and information from admissions officers. You lose out on many of these features if you dont start early, and you dont want to be a part of the huge mob of students all contacting schools at the same time before deadlines. Contact your favorite colleges over the summer when they wont be as busy and are eager to help. Shows that youre interested and efficient Applying to a school early shows the admissions officers that you were interested enough in the school to do the application right away and that you are capable of finishing important things responsibly and early. Colleges look for these traits in students and may value them in your application if youre reaching out and submitting early. Better recommendations Many of your high school teachers will be getting swamped with requests for letters of recommendation for applications in the fall. This extra workload leads to more generic and less polished letters that arent ideal for your application. Dont let this be a factor and reach out to your teacher early to get your letter finished before or during the summer. Our private Irvine college application consultants are here to help. Book your consultant for the summer today. Michael C. is currently a private math, science, and standardized test tutor with TutorNerds in Irvine and Anaheim.
